Portage la Prairie RCMP are investigating how a teen accused of pointing a gun at other youth allegedly got a hold of multiple firearms.

Mounties were called Feb. 18 about the alleged incident in which a male teen in possession of a gun threatened other youth at a home in Oakville, a small community about 25 kilometres east of Portage.

RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Julie Courchaine said several youth were together at the home Feb. 14, but would not say why they had gathered or what led to the reported threat.

“There is evidence to suggest the gun was pointed at more than one of the youths,” she said in an email Wednesday.

On Feb. 24, RCMP searched the Oakville home with a warrant, where officers seized at least four long guns, ammunition and several knives, as well as what appears to be a replica handgun, according to a photo released by police.

A 15-year-old has been charged with pointing a firearm, uttering threats and fail to comply, as well as 11 other firearms and weapons offences. He remains in custody.

Courchaine said RCMP are still working to determine who legally owned the firearms and how the teen was able to access them.
