Silver alert issued for missing woman, 70

City police are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing senior.
Noreen Canard, 70, was last seen in the downtown area at about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday. She is 5-2 in height, has short brown hair with blond highlights and wears glasses with a purple frame.
She was last seen wearing a pink jacket with grey fur on the hood, green sweatpants and tall black mukluks. She was driving a silver 2018 Ford Escape, licence plate KYT206.
The Winnipeg Police Service is asking anyone with information regarding Canard’s whereabouts to call the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.
The WPS activates a silver alert when a vulnerable senior is reported as missing.

Minimum wage to increase to $15.30

Manitoba is raising its minimum wage to $15.30 per hour beginning this October.
The province announced the bump Wednesday. Previously, it had outlined a minimum wage of approximately $15 by October.
Current minimum wage workers make $13.50 hourly and will see an increase to $14.15 on April 1.
In October, Manitoba will be among the three highest minimum wage provinces, according to a provincial news release.
Minimum wage is determined by a legislated inflation-tied formula.
Missing woman, 70, found

A missing 70-year-old woman has been found safely, Winnipeg police said Wednesday morning.
Noreen Canard was last seen in the downtown area Tuesday morning.
Police issued a silver alert Wednesday after she was reported missing.
RCMP make arrest in 2019 Birdtail Sioux First Nation slaying

A 28-year-old woman was charged this week in a stabbing death in Birdtail Sioux First Nation four years ago.
On Jan. 7, 2019, Manitoba First Nations Police Service were called to a home in the community, which is north of Virden, for a man reportedly in cardiac arrest, but when they arrived officers found a 28-year-old man dead from a stab wound. His name was never released.
MFNPS and RCMP major crimes officers interviewed persons of interest who were with the victim the day prior, but laid no charges at that point, Mounties said at the time.
RCMP investigators arrested Cherisse McKay, of the First Nation, on Monday and charged her with manslaughter. She’s been remanded into custody. Mounties and MFNPS are still investigating.
Dauphin River First Nation man dies in head-on collision

A Dauphin River First Nation man died after a head-on collision on Highway 513 early Wednesday.
Gypsumville Mounties were summoned at about 1 a.m.
In the first vehicle, officers were able to get the 51-year-old driver out, but he died at the scene.
The front passenger was pinned, and was later extracted. A passenger in the backseat got out on her own, RCMP said.
In the second vehicle, the driver and front passenger were pinned, while a man in the backseat got out on his own.
Officers got the pinned occupants out of the two vehicles and they were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Einarson defeats Korea, improves to 6-3 at World Women’s Curling Championship

Team Canada’s Kerri Einarson defeated Korea’s Ha Seungyoun 8-6 on Wednesday night in Sweden to improve to 6-3 at the World Women’s Curling Championship.
The result puts Einarson’s Gimli-based team in a tie for second place in the 13-team event with Italy. The loss drops Korea to 4-4.
Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni is in first with a perfect 8-0 record.
Einarson returns to the ice tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT to take on Japan’s Fujisawa Satsuki (3-5).
The 12-game round robin concludes Friday. The top six from the field advance to Saturday’s playoff round. The two teams with the best records receive byes to the semis while the other four play the first round.
