Adam Lowry and Kevin Stenlund accounted for Winnipeg’s goals. Lowry, who now has three goals in two playoff games, opened the scoring to give the Jets a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, while Stenlund evened the game 2-2 with a marker late in the second period.
Connor Hellebuyck finished with 34 saves for the Jets. Laurent Brossoit had 31 saves for the Golden Knights.
The Jets host the next two games, with Game 3 Saturday afternoon and Game 4 Monday night. Game 5 returns to Vegas Thursday.

About 500 workers will clean up Winnipeg’s entire street network, including bridges, sidewalks, designated active transportation pathways, boulevards and medians over the following five to six weeks, while also removing litter and debris from city parks.

Police watchdog investigating after woman suffers broken ribs

Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating an allegation of serious injuries following an incident involving Brandon Police Service officers.
The Independent Investigation Unit said it was informed officers had attempted to stop a stolen vehicle at about 1:30 a.m. on April 14, but “disengaged” while following the vehicle to Highway 10.
A passenger was being let out of the vehicle when officers later found it in the area of 13th Street.

Manitoba’s COVID death toll rises
2:53 PM
Manitoba’s COVID-19 death toll has increased by 13, to 381 people, this year.
The province reported the increase this week, marking the first time since early March that death toll has been bumped up.
COVID-19 was detected among 40 hospitalized patients, including 12 patients in the intensive care unit, for the week of April 9 to 15.
Although there is no widespread testing for the virus, the provincial case count has increased slightly and hospitalizations appear to be declining.
There were 149 cases detected and two outbreaks in long-term care homes for the week of April 9 to 15. That’s compared to 132 COVID cases, as well as 53 hospital admissions and eight intensive care admissions among patients who tested positive during the previous week, from April 2 to 8. That week, there were also two long-term care outbreaks reported.
Shellmouth reservoir outflow to increase
5:13 PM
Manitoba’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre says it will increase the flow from the Shellmouth Reservoir to manage its level.
The Assiniboine River has peaked between the Shellmouth Dam and Virden, it said.
It reported the level of the river is gradually rising downstream of Virden due to spring runoff.
Outflow from the Shellmouth Dam was to increase Friday to 800 cubic feet per second from the current 300 cfs.
The centre reported the flow and level of major rivers continue to rise, including on the Red, Assiniboine and Souris rivers.
The effect of this week’s snowfall on southern Manitoba is being analyzed.
The Portage Diversion is in operation to minimize the effect of ice jams on the Assiniboine River east of Portage la Prairie and to control river levels downstream, including in Winnipeg.
The Red River Floodway is in operation to reduce the level of the Red River in Winnipeg.
