A street closure is in effect for Monday night’s “whiteout” street party downtown.

The Winnipeg Jets will face the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 4 of their first-round NHL playoff series at 8:30 p.m. CT.

Southbound Donald Street between Ellice and St. Mary avenues is closed from 9 a.m. Monday until Tuesday at 7 a.m.

Eastbound and westbound Graham Avenue, between Hargrave and Smith streets, will be closed from 5:30 p.m. until Tuesday at 1 a.m.

The Millennium Library is closing early on Monday, at 5 p.m.

A 25-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with manslaughter in the city’s latest homicide.

He died in hospital April 19.

The manslaughter suspect, Mark Phillip Traverse, was arrested at his home Friday, said police.

U of M ending mask mandate on May 1

11:20 AM

The University of Manitoba is ending its mask mandate — one of the last such policies intact in the province — as of next week.

Starting on May 1, the start of the school’s summer term, face coverings will become optional.

“This change will align UM with current public health practices across the province,” said Michael Benarroch, university president and vice-chancellor, in a community update Monday.

Benarroch said the post-secondary institute will continue to supply masks to community members because it will continue to “strongly encourage” they be worn — especially in indoor spaces that do not allow for distancing.

The university leader urged faculty members, staff and students to undertake individual risk assessments and respect the decisions of others.

Ehlers to miss Game 4 vs. Golden Knights, Stanley draws in for Morrissey

12:11 PM

The Winnipeg Jets will be without forward Nikolaj Ehlers for Game 4 against the Vegas Golden Knights, marking the fifth straight game and fourth consecutive playoff game he’ll miss with an undisclosed upper-body injury.

Ehlers suffered the ailment late in a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wild in the second-last regular-season game back on April 11. He’s been listed as day-to-day ever since, and while he’s been skating with the club the past week, Ehlers has yet to be cleared by the team doctors.

Logan Stanley will also draw in for an injured Josh Morrissey, who was ruled out of the best-of-seven series after suffering a suspected knee injury just minutes into Game 3 Saturday — a 5-4 double-overtime win for the Golden Knights. Stanley played in the Jets’ final regular-season game, but has yet to make his playoff debut this year.

Moose forward Kristian Reichel to have season-ending surgery

12:52 PM

Manitoba Moose forward Kristian Reichel’s season is over, as he’ll undergo surgery this week to repair an upper-body injury.

The injury to the Czech product is believed to stem from an awkward landing on his back and shoulder just 10 seconds into the road game against the Texas Stars on April 11.

Reichel, who played two regular season games with the Winnipeg Jets, set career highs in games played (61), assists (15) and points (24) with the Moose this year.

The Moose begin the 2023 American Hockey League playoffs against the Milwaukee Admirals at Canada Life Centre on Friday, 7 p.m. puck drop.

WFPS said the patient was assessed at the shelter and pronounced dead.

Female jogger sexually assaulted in Charleswood: police

3:26 PM

The Winnipeg Police Service’s sex crimes unit is investigating after a man assaulted a woman while she was jogging in Charleswood on Sunday.

Police said the woman was approached from behind and touched in an inappropriate manner on Charleswood Road, north of Rannock Avenue, at about 10:45 a.m.

The woman screamed, and the man ran off through a school parking lot.

He is in his 20s, has a slim build and was wearing a green army-style jacket with a grey hoodie underneath and camo-style pants, said police, who have a potential suspect identity.
