Man arrested after police chase

9:40 AM

A police chase down Henderson Highway, which involved a Winnipeg Police Service helicopter, has led to the arrest of a 34-year-old man.

Officers attempted to stop a stolen Lincoln Zephyr near Henderson Highway and Chief Peguis Trail on May 5. The stolen vehicle sped off without regard for public safety or traffic controls, according to police.

AIR1, the police service’s aerial unit, and RCMP coordinated with officers as the vehicle drove toward Lockport. Police stopped the Lincoln with a tire spike near St. Andrews Airport.

The man driving tried to flee but was stopped by officers. He had two stolen bank cards on him.

The Lincoln, a pizza delivery vehicle, was previously stolen on May 4 in the 400 block of Harbison Avenue West. The male suspect allegedly stole the vehicle while it was running and unattended. A pizza delivery driver, who attempted to stop the theft, was dragged a short distance and had minor injuries.

The 34-year-old is facing a number of charges, including robbery, driving without a licence or invalid licence, and flight while being pursued by a peace officer.
