Vacant William Avenue home burns again

Firefighters were dispatched to extinguish a blaze in a William Avenue home for the fourth time in the past year.
Crews were sent to the vacant, two-and-a-half storey house in the 500 block of William at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday and declared the fire under control at 1:05 a.m.
The house sustained damage from previous fires in May 2022, and in March and April of this year, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said.
Rubber fire in industrial yard

Crews spent nearly three hours extinguishing a rubber fire in an industrial yard early Tuesday.
Firefighters were sent to the scene on Messier Street at 12:51 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from a large pile of rubber and an adjacent structure.
Crews fought the fire from outside the building. Heavy machinery was used to move the piles of material so crews could fight the fire.
Firefighters declared the blaze under control at 3:41 a.m.
A nearby rail line was temporarily shut down as a precaution.
Resident in critical condition after fire

One person is in critical condition after an early morning fire.
Firefighters were sent to a single-storey, multi-family residence in the 600 block of St. Mary’s Road at 12:30 a.m. Monday. They fought the blaze from inside and declared the fire under control at 1:05 a.m.
The two occupants of the house got out before firefighters arrived. One was transported to hospital in critical condition.
The City of Winnipeg’s emergency social services team responded to help the other resident find temporary accommodations.
Burt Block Party goes country on Aug. 18

Alberta country music star Brett Kissel and the James Barker Band from Ontario will headline a fifth Burt Block Party Aug. 18 to be held in front of the Burton Cummings Theatre.
Ticket prices start at $49.50 plus fees and go on sale May 26 at ticketmaster.ca.
Four other Burt Block Party outdoor concerts were already announced for Aug. 11, 12, 19 and 20, with headliners such as the Strumbellas, Billy Talent, Glass Tiger and Cheap Trick.
Smith Street, which runs in front of the theatre, is cordoned off for the shows allowing room for a stage in the adjacent parks and parking lots and up to 4,000 spectators.
Man stabbed on Winnipeg Transit bus: police

A man was stabbed following an altercation on a Winnipeg Transit bus last Friday evening.
Winnipeg police say officers were called to Sargent Avenue and Balmoral Street at about 5:15 p.m., where they found the man, whose age hasn’t been released, suffering from serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital in unstable condition, where he was later stabilized.
Police say the altercation began on the bus between the victim and between two and three other people before the man was stabbed. Police have not revealed whether the suspects were men or women. The bus driver pulled over the vehicle and called police, then the suspects ran.
Police have made no arrests and ask anyone with information on the attack to call major crimes investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477.
Brandon man killed in high-speed rollover: RCMP

A 19-year-old Brandon man has died after his vehicle rolled on Highway 3 in the Rural Municipality of Two Borders.
Virden RCMP said officers were sent to the scene on the highway east of the intersection with Road 162 West at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday. They found a car flipped over inside the fence line of an adjacent property.
RCMP said officers have determined the vehicle was going east at a high speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle rolled several times, going through the fence and landing on its roof. The driver — who was the only person in the car — wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, RCMP said.
He was given medical treatment but pronounced dead at the scene. Mounties are investigating the crash.
Winnipeg police seek Main Street slaying suspect

Homicide detectives are searching for a potentially armed-and-dangerous man accused in a Main Street slaying earlier this month.
Vincent Brian Kipling, 31, was found with serious injuries near Stella Avenue and Main Street at about 10:50 p.m. on May 10. He later died in hospital and his death was deemed a homicide.
On Tuesday, Winnipeg police announced detectives had established a suspect, but had not yet found him. Homicide investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating Aaron Wayne Azure, 38, who is subject to a warrant for manslaughter.
He’s 6-2 with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. He might have a goatee or be wearing glasses. He also has tattoos, including a spider on the left of his neck, the letter W on front of his neck and the word “loyalty” on his right hand. His ears are pierced.

Human remains found on Matlock Beach: RCMP

Selkirk RCMP are investigating after human remains were found on the shore of Lake Winnipeg around Matlock Beach on Saturday.
Officers were called to the beach at about 11:45 a.m..
RCMP said the person’s identity is unknown at this point.
Local Mounties, along with the Chief Medical Examiner’s office, are investigating.

One injured in Corydon Avenue fire

One person was injured after a fire in a residence on Corydon Avenue Tuesday morning.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews were called to the blaze in the two-storey, multiple suite building on the 1000 block of the street at about 8:30 a.m.
When they arrived, WFPS said, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the building. They got inside and got the fire under control by just after 9 a.m.
The building’s occupants got themselves out, but one person was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Body found near Red River

Winnipeg emergency services located the body of an adult male Tuesday morning, near the bank of the Red River, off the 300 block of Waterfront Drive.
Following a report of a human remains in the area, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members located the deceased man at approximately 11:20 a.m. City police on scene were notified and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was summoned.
An autopsy is pending, police said in a news release. Additional information was not provided. Police noted foul play was not suspected.
