The crash happened at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday near Municipal Road 38E in the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie.

RCMP said a 26-year-old Steinbach woman was travelling eastbound when she tried to avoid debris, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a westbound pickup truck.

Man fatally shot by RCMP in Portage la Prairie

11:59 AM

An 18-year-old man was fatally shot by an RCMP officer after what investigators described as a “domestic disturbance” in an apartment in Portage la Prairie early Wednesday.

Mounties were sent to the apartment building on Hazel Bay at about 1:05 a.m. and found a female victim safe in another apartment, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release late Wednesday morning.

The RCMP said officers were confronted by the male suspect, who was armed with a weapon, when they went to the suite where he lives.

“The officers deployed their conducted energy weapons,” RCMP said, “and an officer discharged their firearm.”

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

One officer suffered minor injuries, the Mounties said.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating.
