Missing teen found dead: police

2:12 PM

Winnipeg police have confirmed a 15-year-old boy who had gone missing in late May has been found dead.

Inuka Gunathilaka was missing since May 24.

His sister told the Free Press on May 31 that police had suspended their search for him after locating a body near the Red River.

The family are members of the city’s close-knit Sri Lankan community, who along with his loved ones, had conducted searches for the missing teen.

Inuka Gunathilaka, 15, was last seen leaving his home in the Fort Richmond on May 24. He was spotted shortly after on CCTV footage from inside a Tim Hortons coffee shop near Killarney Avenue and Pembina Highway.

RCMP consider toddler’s death in Red Sucker Lake First Nation suspicious

2:40 PM

Island Lake RCMP are investigating the death of a two-year-old boy in Red Sucker Lake First Nation as suspicious.

Mounties were called to the remote, northeastern Manitoba First Nation from their Island Lake detachment on Saturday.

Officers determined the toddler had been taken to the local nursing station in medical distress, where health-care workers tried to assist him, but he died.

RCMP are considering the death suspicious and have called in major crime and forensics officers to investigate.
