Police seek suspect in youth stabbing that followed transit bus dispute
9:50 AM
City police are asking the public for help to investigate a stabbing of a 14-year-old boy that followed a dispute on a Winnipeg Transit bus in early June.
Winnipeg police say officers were called to Marbury Road and Jefferson Avenue in The Maples neighbourhood at about 7:20 p.m. on June 4, where they found the boy suffering stab wounds to his upper body. He was hospitalized in stable condition, while the suspects fled before police arrived. Police say the victim will require surgery.
Major crimes officers then learned two groups of youths had been on a bus travelling from the St. James neighbourhood when an argument broke out, before the two groups got off at the intersection where one suspect stabbed the boy.
Police ask anyone with information about the incident, who was video footage of the stabbing or the events leading up to it, or who may know who the suspect was to call major crimes investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
Homemade gun with bayonet seized in Dauphin traffic stop
12:29 PM
A Dauphin man has been charged after RCMP found a homemade gun with an attached bayonet in a vehicle during a traffic stop late Tuesday.
Mounties on patrol in Dauphin spotted a vehicle speeding on the city’s Main Street at about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday and pulled it over.
An officer approached the vehicle and found two men in the front seats, smelling alcohol and spotting a bag of unmarked cigarettes, RCMP say. The driver was given an alcohol breath test, which he failed.
Inside the vehicle, RCMP found the homemade gun, a spent round, ammunition, cell phones and cash, then determined the driver was on parole and allegedly breaching his conditions.
A 37-year-old Dauphin man was charged with four weapons offences, driving while impaired and possessing property obtained by crime.
