Canaries blast visiting Goldeyes
8:48 AM
The Winnipeg Goldeyes matched a record for the worst defeat in franchise history Wednesday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Fish fell 19-0 to the Canaries in American Association baseball action, tying a record for the most lopsided shutout in Goldeyes history. Winnipeg lost by the same score on Aug. 25, 1995 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Sioux Falls knocked out 24 hits in the win over the Goldeyes, who dropped to 12-17.
Winnipeg had only two hits in the game. Dayson Croes went 0-for-4 at the plate, snapping his 25-game hitting streak. Croes finished two games shy of the Winnipeg record of 27 set by Luis Ortiz in 2001 and Brent Metheny in 2008.
The Goldeyes and Canaries finish the series today at 12:05 p.m.

Costco seeks to add new store in Winnipeg: report
1:09 PM
It appears Costco plans to build a new store in west Winnipeg, according to a city report.
Council’s Assiniboia Community Committee is expected to vote next week on a variance to allow a proposed 166,843-square-foot store at 4077 Portage Ave. in the Westport Festival development.
“The proposed commercial building will contain a Costco Wholesale Corporation retail store,” the report notes.
The site will be at the intersection of Race Track Road and Stewart Millett Way, just west of the Perimeter Highway, in the Assiniboia Downs neighbourhood.
The community committee will vote on the variance, which would permit fewer bicycle parking spaces, a reduced side yard and fewer loading spaces than required, on Wednesday, June 21.
