Stonewall RCMP stopped more than $1.4 million worth of drugs from entering Stony Mountain Institution in three separate incidents.
Four men have been charged in the incidents, which occurred between May 22 to May 30, but RCMP are looking for others.
“These were a significant amount of drugs that were intercepted before they made their way into Stony Mountain Institution,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Jason Vrooman said in a statement Friday.
“We were able to respond quickly due to good communication and a strong partnership with the Correctional Service of Canada. We will continue to work with CSC to stop the smuggling of illicit drugs into Stony Mountain Institution.”
In the first incident, on May 22, RCMP arrested a 32-year-old man who had been spotted tossing suspicious items over the fence at the prison at about 8:30 p.m.
Officers arrested the man and found several packages containing more than 300 prescription pills, 60 grams of methamphetamine, and 85 grams of cannabis resin. The man was remanded into custody.
A drone attempting to carry drugs into the prison was the second attempt foiled.
Officers responded on May 25, at about 10:50 p.m., where they found CSC workers had found the drone with a package containing more than 100 grams of cannabis, 230 grams of methamphetamine, 400 grams of shatter, and 50 tablets of prescription medication. The investigation is ongoing.
In the third incident, three men were spotted throwing several packages over the prison fence on May 30 at about 8:30 p.m.
The packages were filled with 150 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of fentanyl, and 90 grams of shatter.
Three men have been charged and remanded into custody.
