Police guns and gangs investigators are searching for a pair of Ottawa men accused of temporarily moving to Winnipeg’s south end to sell cocaine and other illicit drugs.
Police began investigating two people thought to have taken up residence here in early May, the Winnipeg Police Service said Thursday. They identified two suspects and a short-term rental house in the 100 block of Northwater Bay in the South Pointe area.
Investigators raided the rental with a search warrant on June 1 and found about $35,000 in cash, 560 grams of cocaine, 54 grams of crack cocaine, about 700 percocet prescription opioid pills, and drug packaging materials, police said.
The two suspects weren’t there when police showed up. Police believe the men, who are wanted on warrants, are actively evading law enforcement. The Crown attorneys’ office has authorized charges, police said.
Ahmed Waziry, 25 of Ottawa, and Najibullah Rassouli, 29 of Ottawa, are both charged with two counts of possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.
Police have asked for anyone who knows where they are or has other information that could lead to their arrest to call guns and gangs investigators at 204-986-8430 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).
