4-year-old attacked by coyote in North Kildonan

10:52 AM

A four-year-old child in the Headmaster Row area of North Kildonan was attacked by a coyote Friday evening. The child has been treated and released from hospital, Manitoba Natural Resources and Northern Development said in a press release Sunday.

This is the second attack in a month on a human by a coyote in the Winnipeg area. The first incident involved a nine-year-old child who was attacked on June 24.

Conservation officers have stepped up patrols in the area and hired a trapper from the Manitoba Trappers Association to assist. The public is advised to take extra precautions, especially with young children.

Police seek public help in hit-and-run on Notre Dame Avenue

3:36 PM

The Winnipeg Police Service have asked public assistance in a hit-and-run incident which took place on Friday evening at the intersection of Isabel Street and Notre Dame Avenue, according to a news release Sunday.

Investigation revealed the victim was crossing the Notre Dame Avenue and Isabel Street against a red traffic signal light when he was struck by a vehicle, projecting him onto the roadway, police said.

The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. The involved vehicle fled the scene before the police arrived.

An empty but heavily damaged grey 2007 Pontiac G6 was later found in the 100 block of Juno Street. It was subsequently learned that four men were observed fleeing the vehicle before it was abandoned, police said.

Investigators are requesting public assistance with information regarding the incident and are also asking for dash camera, doorbell/home security, and business surveillance footage in the area at the time of the incident.
