Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corp. has a new president and chief executive officer.

Gerry Sul, who has been acting president and CEO since the departure of Manny Atwal earlier this year, has been officially appointed to the role. Sul formally took the position July 5.

“Gerry is an experienced leader with extensive knowledge about our lines of business,” MLL board chairwoman Bonnie Mitchelson said in a statement Friday.

“He is trusted and respected by employees throughout the corporation, and under his leadership, Manitobans can expect to see continued innovation and sound financial governance.”

Sul, who worked for more than 20 years with an agri-business company before joining MLL as chief information officer in 2007, as held several different positions at the Crown corporation, including vice-president and chief corporate services officer.

“I look forward to working with our board and employers to continue to offer Manitobans great service and experiences, while increasing our impact in supporting important programs and initiatives that benefit out province,” Sul said in the release.

Sul received a bachelor of computer science from the University of Manitoba, and has completed both the Queen’s University (Ont.) school of business executive program and University of Nevada, Reno executive development program.

After three years in the MLL’s top position, Atwal left to become chief operating officer at People Corporation, a national company providing group benefits, retirement and human resource solutions.
