Two kids injured after vehicle shot at Sunday night

12:04 PM

A vehicle was shot and two children were injured by shattering glass near Maryland Street and Sargent Avenue Sunday night in an incident police believe was unintentional.

Winnipeg police patrol officers, the dog unit and helicopter responded to the reported shooting at about 10 p.m. Officers found the vehicle, its driver and two kids, 10 and 12, who were injured, police said. The children were treated at hospital for minor injuries and later released.

Major crimes investigators don’t think the shots were intended for the vehicle, but could be part of an unspecified drug conflict, police said.

Police have asked anyone with information on the shooting to call investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477.

Police officers bear-sprayed by teen

1:26 PM

Two police officers were bear-sprayed while responding to a well-being call on Monday evening.

Police said two officers were called to a home in North Kildonan at about 5:30 p.m., where they spoke with a resident, before another resident walked up and bear-sprayed the pair unexpectedly.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested. He will be charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer and one count of possessing a weapon. He was released to an adult on an undertaking.

Police said the two officers were treated by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

Lac du Bonnet man dead in two-vehicle collision

2:09 PM

An 82-year-old man is dead after his minivan was rear-ended at a rural intersection east of Lac du Bonnet early Tuesday morning.

RCMP from the Lac du Bonnet detachment were called at about 6:20 a.m. to the reported collision at Provincial Road 313 and Channel Drive, which is about 15 kilometres east of the town.

Mounties say a pickup truck driven by a 32-year-old Winnipeg man headed eastbound on the provincial road hit the victim’s minivan as it was making a left-hand turn onto Channel Drive.

The pickup driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the 82-year-old, who is from the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet, was ejected from his van and pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP say.

Local RCMP and a specialized traffic investigator are still probing the circumstances of the collision.
