City concert to honour MMIWG2S+
10:40 AM
A free concert honouring missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people takes place Saturday in Point Douglas.
The 15th annual No Stone Unturned Concert in St. John’s Park runs from 1-11 p.m.
The concert features performances from local musicians and artists and includes free lunch and dinner, children’s activities and a vigil/drum ceremony with fireworks. The event also provides support for the families of missing and murdered.
The concert was founded by Point Douglas NDP MLA Bernadette Smith, whose sister, Claudette, went missing 15 years ago.
Alleged murder-suicide leaves two dead, one wounded
3:52 PM
The RCMP is investigating an alleged murder-suicide that left two people dead and another injured in the RM of Morris Saturday morning.
Around 12:35 a.m., Mounties in the rural community, located roughly 70 kilometres south of Winnipeg, responded to reports that a 32-year-old man had shot a 65-year-old woman and wounded a 59-year-old man, RCMP said in a release.
Responding officers found the suspect and the female victim dead at the scene. The male victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. All of the individuals are related, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, but police are not searching for additional suspects.
Silver alert issued for missing man, 81
4:12 PM
City police are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing senior.
Earle Ellis, 81, was last seen on Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the Booth neighbourhood. Police are concerned for his well-being and have issued a silver alert, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a release Saturday.
The WPS activates a silver alert when a vulnerable senior is reported as missing.
Ellis is described as six feet tall, with a medium build, medium-length grey hair and a full, grey beard and moustache. He may be wearing a brown button-up hospital shirt, black jacket, pants and white runners, police said.
Anybody with information is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6250.
