Missing 81-year-old man found safe: police

An 81-year-old man who had been missing since Friday has been safely located, city police confirmed in a media alert Saturday evening.
Earle Ellis was last seen on Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the Booth neighbourhood. Police had issued a silver alert to locate the man.
Fire shuts down strip of Mountain Avenue, crews on scene

Emergency crews shut down Mountain Avenue between Charles Street and Salter Avenue due to a fire. Also, Aikins Street is closed between College Avenue and St. John’s Avenue. On Sunday morning, police advised to avoid the area.
The fire broke out in a three-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue.
One evacuee from the apartment building was assessed and treated by paramedics, but did not require transport to hospital, WFPS said in a press release. A neighbouring home was evacuated as a precaution.
The social services team helped find temporary housing for approximately 20 displaced residents.
The WFPS is expected to be on scene throughout the day.
Crews respond to fire on Pritchard Avenue

The Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service was called to a fire in a vacant, two-storey duplex in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue early Sunday morning, according to a media release.
At 6:45 a.m., crews responded to the report and found smoke coming from the structure. The fire was brought under control at 7:33 a.m.
The building was searched and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
