Woman stabbed at Ellice Avenue bus shelter

8:54 AM

Two women “occupying” a bus shelter are facing aggravated assault charges after another woman was stabbed.

The incident took place in the 1800 block of Ellice Avenue at about 7:50 p.m. Sunday.

Police officers used a tourniquet on the 28-year-old victim before an ambulance arrived. The woman was transported to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable. Officers arrested two women at the scene.

The Winnipeg Police  Service said it has learned the victim approached the suspects and an argument erupted. One of the suspects produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times, the WPS said.

The victim did not know the suspects, police said.

Crystal Mary Helen Beardy, 46, is charged with aggravated assault and detained in custody. A 33-year-old woman was arrested and is also facing a charge of aggravated assault. She was released on an undertaking.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s major crimes unit is asking anyone with information that might help investigators to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Teens robbed, assaulted in mall

9:17 AM

Police said a group of teens robbed and assaulted another group of teens inside Polo Park mall on Friday.

Officers were sent to the mall at about 6:10 p.m. and found three males, two aged 16 and one 15, suffering from minor injuries inside a business in the mall. The victims did not require medical attention, police said.

Multiple suspects fled before police arrived.

The heavily armed tactical support team and the canine unit were sent to the scene. Officers arrested eight youths aged 13 to 17 in the area and recovered a large knife and an imitation Glock 19 CO2 gun nearby.

Police said two groups of youths were involved in a verbal confrontation when one group assaulted three victims who had taken refuge in a retail business. One accused brandished a concealed firearm before the assault, and another robbed one of the victims of his phone, the WPS said.

The victims and the suspects did not know each other, police said.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s major crimes unit is asking anyone with information that might help investigators to call them at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Motorcyclist injured in Tuesday morning collision

11:48 AM

One person was seriously injured Tuesday morning after a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle.

The collision occurred near Lagimodiere Boulevard and Almey Avenue at around 6:50 a.m. The motorcyclist was transported to hospital in unstable condition, the Winnipeg Police Service said.

One lane of traffic remained closed as of 11 a.m., as police continued to investigate. No further details were available, the WPS said.

The crash happened four days after a 28-year-old man on a motorcycle was killed in a collision on McGillivray Boulevard. On July 28, a 61-year-old Winnipeg man died after a farm tractor collided with his motorcycle on Highway 8 south of Gimli.

Big Wreck plays city casino Dec. 17

11:51 AM

Alt-rock group Big Wreck has added a Dec. 17 date at the Club Regent Event Centre to its North American fall tour.

Tickets go on sale Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.ca or casinosofwinnipeg.com, however there are presales that began Tuesday and run all week. Prices start at $29 plus fees.

Toronto singer and guitarist Ian Thornley, who co-founded Big Wreck with Brian Doherty, Forest Williams and David Henning in 1992, continues to front the group after Doherty’s death from lung cancer in 2019. Williams and Henning left Big Wreck when it broke up in 2003 and didn’t return for its 2010 revival.

Ontario rockers Texas King and Vilivant are scheduled to be openers.
