Brown to start vs. Stamps, Collaros 3rd on depth chart

9:00 AM

Quarterback Dru Brown will lead the offence when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers take on the Calgary Stampeders in a Week 11 matchup at McMahon Stadium Friday night.

It’s Brown’s first start of the 2023 season. He’s replacing Zach Collaros, who is nursing a minor neck injury and will be listed third on the club’s depth chart, one spot behind Dakota Prukop.

Brown is coming off a stellar performance against the Edmonton Elks last week, throwing for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns to come back down from 22-0. The Bombers are 1-0 against the Stampeders this year.

NDP promises bail reform, mental health response teams to address crime

12:09 PM

NDP leader Wab Kinew says more police officers are needed on Manitoba streets to address crime and improve response times as part of a “smarter” approach to crime.

“We want to work with law enforcement to ensure that they have the necessary resources to do their job,” Kinew said on Thursday morning.

The commitment was part of a five point plan to address crime and justice challenges if the party forms government in the Oct. 3 election.

The NDP also said it would:

  • implement the National Police Federation’s recommendations on bail reform;
  • introduce an Unexplained Wealth Act;
  • create a $2.5 million rebate program for security alarms, doorbell cameras and motion sensor lights;
  • hire 100 mental health workers to work alongside law enforcement; and
  • end chronic homelessness in two terms.

Commitments to end chronic homelessness and introduce an Unexplained Wealth Act were previously announced.
