Police seek suspect after man stabbed

Winnipeg police are looking for a suspect after a man was stabbed at a home in the 300 block of Aikins Street on Thursday night.

Officers applied chest seals to the 41-year-old victim, who was found at about 9:30 p.m., before an ambulance arrived, said police.

The man was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable.

Missing canoeist’s body found by residents

Community members have found the body of a 43-year-old man who went missing when a canoe tipped in Gods River in northern Manitoba on Aug. 25.

RCMP said Abraham Beardy, who was from Shamattawa First Nation, was recovered from the river Thursday, following a weeklong search by water, foot and air.

A female who was with him when the canoe tipped managed to make it to shore.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine Beardy’s cause of death, said police.

No injuries reported in waterfront encampment fire

No injuries were reported in an encampment fire close to downtown Thursday night.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of an outdoor fire near a homeless encampment on Waterfront Drive, along the bank of the Red River, at about 8:55 p.m. Aug. 31. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and left the scene by about 9:30 p.m.

The Winnipeg fire department responded to other reports of outdoor fires the same night, but this was the only fire reported to be involving or near an encampment.

 

Human remains found in search for missing man

Searchers discovered human remains while looking for a missing man in Lake Manitoba First Nation on Thursday.

RCMP said the remains are believed to be those of Lyndon McIvor, 25, and the death is considered suspicious.

McIvor was last seen on the Main Road in the Interlake community at about 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 26, said police.
