School bus driver, two students hurt in gravel truck collision outside Warren

11:08 AM

A school bus driver was seriously injured and two students were hurt in a collision with a gravel truck outside of Warren on Wednesday morning.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Paul Manaigre said the collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Provincial Road 227 at Road 5 West, which is just west of Warren.

Manaigre said the bus was headed south on Road 5 West when it entered the highway, where it was struck by the truck, which was headed west.

The bus driver, a woman, was transported by a STARS helicopter ambulance to hospital. Two students were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Uninjured children were picked up by parents.

Mounties are still at the scene, Manaigre said Wednesday morning.

Chisholm signs new contract with Jets

11:13 AM

The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Declan Chisholm to a new one-year contract.

Chisholm, 23, was the last remaining restricted free agent to be dealt with by the team this summer. His two-way deal would pay US$775,000 at the NHL level.

The Ontario product was drafted in the fifth round, 150th-overall, in 2018. He had 43 points (5 goals, 38 assists) in 59 games with the Manitoba Moose last year. Chisholm has appeared in just two games so far with the Jets, both in 2021-22,

He would require waivers to be sent down to the Moose this year.

Fire crews are battling a blaze inside the vacant Windsor Hotel downtown.

Firefighters are on scene at a fire in the hotel on Garry Street between York and St. Mary avenues, a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service spokesperson said.

The hotel was shuttered by a provincial health order in March.

Two suspects wanted in Thompson slaying arrested

3:44 PM

Police have arrested two males accused in the slaying of a man in Thompson in late August who were on the run.

RCMP say four males had gone to an apartment complex on Ashberry Place in Thompson on Aug. 30 at about 7:30 p.m., where they got into an altercation with a 33-year-old and another man. The 33-year-old man was shot and died in hospital.

Two men were arrested in early September, while another man and a teen boy remained at large. Noah Crane, 26 of Oxford House, was charged with second-degree murder, while David Linklater, 20 of Thompson, was charged with two counts of assault cause bodily harm and robbery.

Ashley Clipping, 34 of Winnipeg, was wanted on a warrant for two counts of assault cause bodily harm before he was arrested on Monday by Brandon police.

The 16-year-old boy from Bunibonibee Cree Nation turned himself in to Thompson RCMP on Wednesday afternoon. He’s been charged with manslaughter.
