Police uncover bomb during homicide investigation

Winnipeg police discovered a makeshift bomb while investigating the scene of a homicide Friday evening, prompting the emergency evacuation of an apartment in the 600 block of Mulvey Avenue.
“While investigating, officers located a suspicious item believed to be an improvised explosive device. The building was evacuated, and members of the bomb unit were notified and attended the scene,” the Winnipeg Police Service said in a release Saturday.
Police successfully removed the bomb, which was found to be live and presented a risk to public safety, with the help of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.
Nobody was injured, police said.
Bombers trail Ticats 12-6 after Q1

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (10-3) trail the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (5-7) 12-6 at the end of the first quarter in Saturday afternoon’s game at Tim Hortons Field.
Hamilton scored the first 10 points of the game before Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros responded with a five-yard touchdown strike to Nic Demski.
Sergio Castillo’s convert sailed wide right and was returned 126 yards by Tyreik McCallister for two points for the Ticats.
Tiger-Cats lead Bombers 22-16 at the half

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers trail the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 22-16 at the half in Saturday afternoon’s game at Tim Hortons Field.
Nic Demski and Kenny Lawler have caught touchdowns for Winnipeg. Hamilton has two field goals from former Bomber Marc Liegghio and touchdowns from running back James Butler and receiver Terry Godwin II. The Ticats also scored two points on a 126-yard return by Tyreik McAallister on a Sergio Castillo missed extra point convert.
Bombers disappoint in Hamilton, lose 29-23

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers did not look like themselves Saturday afternoon in Hamilton.
The Tiger-Cats took down the Blue and Gold 29-23 in front of 22,610 fans at Tim Hortons Field.
The loss drops Winnipeg, who heads into their second bye week, to 10-4. Hamilton improves to 6-7.
Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros was inaccurate all afternoon and threw three interceptions.
The Bombers haven’t won a regular-season game in Hamilton since a 39-12 victory on Aug. 12, 2017.
