Crews respond to fire on Lansdowne Avenue

11:09 AM

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire on Lansdowne Avenue Sunday morning.

At 6:03 a.m., firefighters were called to a two-and-a-half-storey, single-family home in the 100 block of Lansdowne Avenue where they found smoke coming from the house.

The fire was initially tackled from outside and then doused with water inside. Crews declared the fire under control at 7:37 a.m.

All occupants of the house safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Victim killed in Highway 15 collision identified

11:39 AM

Beausejour RCMP have identified the victim who died after a pickup truck hit her on Highway 15 early Thursday morning as a 27-year-old woman from Winnipeg, police said in a press release Sunday.

The autopsy has confirmed the victim died as a result of injuries sustained from being struck by a car prior to the 1:50 a.m. collision on the highway, about six kilometres east of Dugald. That suspect vehicle had failed to remain at the scene.

Based on this information, police conducted a thorough search of the collision scene where vehicle debris was located and seized.

Earlier it was reported the pickup driver, who collided with the victim the second time, stayed at the scene and called 911. The paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police are asking anyone having any information in relation to the incident to contact the Oakbank RCMP at 204-444-3391, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

Five dead in car crash on Highway 83: RCMP

12:17 PM

Five people are dead after a car rolled over Saturday afternoon on Highway 83, located approximately 19 kilometres south of Swan River, RCMP said in a press release Sunday.

At 5 p.m. yesterday, Swan River RCMP, along with local fire department and EMS, responded to reports of the accident where they found an overturned SUV. Investigation revealed that the car with five occupants was travelling northbound when it entered the ditch and rolled into a field.

The five occupants, two women (42, 26) and three men (37, 36, 25), who were not wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead on scene.

“This is an absolute tragedy, another collision with multiple fatalities on our roads”, said Sgt. Joe Duncan, Detachment Commander of the Swan River RCMP Detachment. “Our thoughts are with those communities and everyone who has lost a loved one.”

Speed may have been a contributing factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
