Drugs, suspected stolen property seized in raid

1:54 PM

Two men are facing charges after police raided a home on Pritchard Avenue and seized drugs and suspected stolen property.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s guns & gangs unit began an investigation into a man and the trafficking of illicit drugs in the north area of the city earlier this month.

Members of the heavily armed tactical support team raided a home in the 400 block of Pritchard on Saturday and seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, four air guns, 27 bicycles believed to be stolen and two motorcycles believed to be stolen, among other items.

Officers also seized body armour issued by the Canadian military. The armour was turned over to military police.

Two Winnipeg men, ages 53 and 32, of Winnipeg, have been charged.

The WPS property crime unit is investigating the stolen property and trying to identifying the owners.

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with assault after a nine-year-old girl was attacked on a northern Manitoba First Nation.

RCMP responded to a report of an assault outside a home on Mosakahiken Cree Nation, located about 700 kilometres north of Winnipeg, at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The girl was with friends outside the home when she was assaulted by a male youth who was in possession of what is believed to be a machete, RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

The girl did not require medical care, Mounties said.

The boy fled the scene but was arrested the next day, RCMP said.

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with assault with a weapon and was remanded into custody.

Moose Lake RCMP continue to investigate the attack.

IIU investigating crash on Hwy. 15

11:39 AM

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is investigating after a teen motorcycle driver sped past police, struck a vehicle and was injured.

Selkirk RCMP were doing traffic enforcement on Highway 15 east of Dugald on Tuesday when they saw a motorcycle headed east at a high rate of speed shortly before 8 p.m.

“The motorcycle passed by and subsequently struck another civilian vehicle. The driver of the motorcycle was located in the ditch,” RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

The 16-year-old driver was transported by STARS air ambulance to Health Sciences Centre with bone fractures. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was not hurt, Mounties said.

The IIU is asking witnesses or anyone with video that might help their investigation to call the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.

More blood donations needed in Manitoba

8:38 AM

Canadian Blood Services says more donations are needed across the country, including in Manitoba.

More than 2,500 people are needed to donate blood between now and Nov. 1 to keep meeting the needs of patients in Manitoba and elsewhere in Canada, the not-for-profit charitable organization said Thursday.

Manitoba donors help ensure about 50 hospitals in the province receive the blood they need, which is more than 34,000 units of blood per year.

To book an appointment, go to blood.ca, download the Give Blood App or call 1-888-2-DONATE.
