Tachinski’s late TD lifts Herd over Rams

REGINA  Quarterback Jackson Tachinski capped a drive with a three-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds left in the game to lift the Manitoba Bisons to a 41-34 victory over the Regina Rams in Canada West university football action at Mosaic Stadium Saturday.

Markos Bockrun had a 33-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter and Maya Turner added field goals from 22, 48, 13 and 34 yards to lead Manitoba to its third consecutive victory after three losses to open the season.

Tachinski completed 19-of-38 passes for 332 yards and two touchdowns.

A.K. Gassama led all Manitoba recievers with four catches for 81 yards. Running back Breydon Stubbs carried the ball nine times for 58 yards.

Jets beat Panthers 6-4 for first win of season

The Winnipeg Jets have notched their first win of the NHL season, downing the Florida Panthers 6-4 at Canada Life Centre.

Kyle Connor scored twice, while Mark Scheifele, Morgan Barron, Dylan Demelo and Mason Appleton also scored. Sam Reinhart, Evan Rodrigues, Carter Verhaeghe and Aleksander Barkov had the Panthers goals.

Winnipeg improves to 1-1-on the year, while Florida falls to 0-2-0.

The Jets return to action on Tuesday when they host the Los Angeles Kings.

Jets lead Panthers 4-2 after two

The Winnipeg Jets have taken as 4-2 lead over the Florida Panthers through two periods at Canada Life Centre.

After Mark Scheifele and Sam Reinhart traded first period power-play goals, things really opened up in the middle frame.

Evan Rodrigues gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage just 25 seconds into the period. But Kyle Connor, with his second goal in as many games, tied it up just 10 seconds later.

Winnipeg’s Morgan Barron and Dylan DeMelo both found the back of the net before the game had hit the midway point.

Shots are 25-20 for the Jets through 40 minutes.

Jets, Panthers tied 1-1 after one period

The Winnipeg Jets and Florida Panthers are tied 1-1 after trading first period power play goals at Canada Life Centre.

Mark Scheifele opened the scoring with his second goal in as many games. Kyle Connor and Josh Morrissey had the assists.

Sam Reinhart replied later in the frame for the visitors.

Winnipeg and Florida are both seeking their first win of the 2023-24 season after starting with road losses.

Shots are 10-10 through 20 minutes.

Man allegedly pulls weapon on security outside nightclub

11:31 AM

A man has been arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at nightclub security staff early Saturday morning, say police.

Winnipeg police say they responded to the call in the 400 block of Main Street just before 1 a.m. Saturday. Police say club security removed a man from the business “due to his aggressive behaviour” and that outside, he pulled out what looked to be a handgun and waved it around. No shots were fired.

Officers located and arrested the suspect near Garry Street. A replica BB gun was located and seized. The 30-year-old man is charged with possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, pointing a firearm and two counts of assault with a weapon.

Police respond to shots fired call late Friday

10:47 AM

Winnipeg police responded to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of Simcoe Street just after 8 p.m. Friday.

On scene, police found damage to a building. No injuries have been reported.

The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 204-986-6219 or contact Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477, or submit a tip through winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
