Manitoba Public Insurance is opening up more appointments for Class 5 road tests after a recent strike disrupted services.
The Crown corporation says that although it fully restored its road testing service for such licenses last week, it has now created additional testing capacity to address the demand.
MPI said new appointments will be available as early as next week.

All drivers who had road tests for Classes 2-5 cancelled during the 10-week strike have been rescheduled, MPI said.
The public insurer also said it will temporarily open up walk-in knowledge tests for Classes 1-6 at its Cityplace location starting Wednesday. The services will be available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
Knowledge test customers need to purchase the services at a service centre or broker beforehand, then bring ID, proof of purchase and a medical exam report, if applicable.
MPI said it is still in the process of rescheduling Class 1 — tractor trailer — license testing, but noted all people outside Winnipeg whose appointments were cancelled were already rescheduled. It isn’t taking any new Class 1 road test appointments in Winnipeg for now in order to accommodate cancelled appointments.
Roughly 1,700 Manitoba Public Insurance workers voted to accept a new contract Nov. 1, ending a strike that dragged on for more than two months.
