Scheifele shines as Jets defeat Coyotes 5-2

Mark Scheifele scored a goal and added a pair of assists as the Winnipeg Jets closed out a five-game homestand with a 5-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.
Vladislav Namestnikov, Kyle Connor, Josh Morrissey and Mason Appleton also scored for the Jets, who improved to 10-5-2 on the season and wrapped up the homestand with a 4-1 record.
Connor’s goal was his team-leading 14th of the season and moved him into sole possession of top spot in the chase for the Rocket Richard Trophy.

Jets lead Coyotes 3-2

Goals from Mark Scheifele, Vladislav Namestnikov and Kyle Connor have the Winnipeg Jets holding a 3-2 lead over the Arizona Coyotes after two periods of play on Saturday night at Canada Life Centre.

Connor scored his 14th of the season at 11:26 of the second period, restoring the Jets one-goal cushion just over five minutes after Matt Dumba had tied the game at 2-2.

Making his fourth start of the season, Jets backup Laurent Brossoit has 13 saves, while Karel Vejmelka has turned aside 16 shots for the Coyotes.

Jets take 2-1 lead over Coyotes

Mark Scheifele and Vladislav Namestnikov scored 58 seconds apart late in the first period to give the Winnipeg Jets a 2-1 lead over the Arizona Coyotes in NHL action Saturday night.

Matias Maccielli had given the Coyotes a 1-0 lead at 14:53 of the first period before the Jets responded with the two quick markers at even strength.

Making his fourth start of the season, Laurent Brossoit made 11 saves for the Jets while Karel Vejmelka made eight saves for the Coyotes.

 

Crews respond to fires on Main, Pembina

10:16 AM

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to the 500 block of Main Street shortly after 7 a.m.

When crews arrived at the seven-storey hotel, heavy smoke was coming from the building. Firefighters extinguished a fire located in one of the suites. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

Friday, firefighters were called to a three-storey apartment block in the 1600 block of Pembina Highway shortly after 7 p.m.

When they arrived, crews found a fire in the laundry room of the building. The fire was under control at 7:45 p.m., and no injuries were reported.

Man stabbed on Isabel Street

10:08 AM

A 40-year-old man was stabbed shortly before midnight Friday, Winnipeg police said in a release Saturday.

Police were called to the 100 block of Isabel Street around 11:50 p.m. and applied a tourniquet to the man. He was taken to hospital in unstable condition and has since been upgraded to stable.

Police say the assault likely took place in the vicinity of Balmoral Street and Isabel Street and the suspects, who have not been identified, fled before police arrived.
