Jets fall 3-1 to Oilers

9:40 PM

The Winnipeg Jets gave up a trio of third-period goals to watch a one-goal lead turn into a 3-1 defeat to the Edmonton Oilers.

Darnell Nurse, Leon Draisaitl and Ryan McLeod (into an empty net) all scored for the visitors.

Cole Perfetti had the lone goal for Winnipeg, which falls to 12-8-1 and has now lost three straight games for the first time this season. Edmonton improves to 9-12-1 after winning for a fourth straight outing.

The Jets return to action on Saturday afternoon against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Firefighters douse blaze in vacant Flora Avenue house

3:40 PM

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says crews were called to two-storey house on the 500 block of Flora Avenue at about noon, where they found smoke and flames coming from the building.

Firefighters got the fire under control by just before 2 p.m. and searched the house, but found no one inside.

Fire crews are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Victim in critical condition after Main Street stabbing

One person is in critical condition after a stabbing on Main Street just south of Higgins Avenue Thursday afternoon.

Winnipeg police were still on the scene of the incident, which appears to have occurred near the Salvation Army, in the mid-afternoon.

Officers were called to the scene at about 1:10 p.m., police said. The victim, whose age and sex was not immediately available, was rushed to hospital, police said.

Police have not yet said whether anyone has been arrested.

Missing Roseau River man found safe

A Roseau River man who had been missing since Nov. 21 has been found and is safe, the Manitoba First Nations Police Service said Thursday morning.

The police service asked for the public’s help in finding Darnell Atkinson, 28, on Wednesday.
