Boehmer to play for bronze at senior nationals

10:44 AM

Manitoba’s Dave Boehmer has had his hopes for a Canadian senior men’s curling championship title dashed this morning in Vernon, B.C.

The Petersfield team was thumped 7-1 after six ends by Saskatchewan’s Bruce Korte in one of two semi-finals.

Boehmer will play for the bronze medal later today, against either Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.

Boehmer had a super week, going 8-2 to make championship Saturday. He was joined on the team by third Dale Lott, second Sean Bracken, lead George Hacking and alternate Scott Szydlik.

The national final is set for later today, with a chance to represent Canada at the 2024 world playdowns from April 20-27, in Östersund, Sweden.

In women’s play, Joelle Brown of Winnipeg made the championship pool Thursday before finishing with a record of 5-5 and fell short of the semi-finals.

Brown was supported by third Maureen Bonar, second Allyson Bell, lead Natalie Claude and alternate Deb McCreanor.

Boehmer and Brown will defend their Manitoba senior titles at the 2024 provincials in late March at Winnipeg’s Heather Club.
