Hey there, time traveller!

A moving company with a nationwide presence, including an office in Winnipeg, is aiming to make life easier for charities and community organizations during the holiday season.
Two Small Men with Big Hearts Moving Co. has launched its fourth annual 101 Moves campaign.
The company is donating free moves to such organizations that need them until Jan. 24.
“Two Small Men has always been community-minded,” says Katie Balkwill, vice-president sales and marketing. “We’re a national company, but we really believe we’re supported by our local communities.”
The 41-year-old firm, which has more than 25 offices across the country, started offering free moving services to community organizations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company recognizes moving can be a highly stressful experience, especially during the winter. Staff are proud to help meet the needs of the community by alleviating that pressure.
The company donated 25 such moves in 2020, 80 moves in 2021, and 101 moves in 2022. It hopes to duplicate last year’s number in the coming weeks.
“The holidays can be a joyous time, but for those that are struggling a little, we see a greater need to help them,” Balkwill says.
A few Winnipeg organizations have already participated in this year’s campaign.

Among them is Making It Home, an initiative that helps people who are transitioning from homelessness furnish their new homes.
Co-founded by Patricia Hedden and Robin MacKenzie, Making It Home consults with clients to identify home decor preferences, offers donated furnishings and household goods, and provides volunteers who curate, clean, assemble and make a space a home.
Working with Two Small Men is “absolutely fantastic,” Hedden says.
“We’re two women working at home who have started this organization, so we put out a call for a moving company and Two Small Men have stepped up in a big way,” she says. “The crews are on time and absolutely delightful to work with. Very professional.”
In addition to Making It Home, Two Small Men has made free moves for Manitoba Harvest and the Manitoba Marathon.
The company also helped Ontario-based Firefighters Without Borders move a truckload of used firefighting equipment to Vancouver from Winnipeg, where it was then sent to Ukraine.
Participating in the 101 Moves campaign is “extremely fulfilling,” says Cathy Montieth, who manages Two Small Men’s Winnipeg office.
“I can’t express how wonderful it makes me and my staff feel to give back,” she says. “My movers find it very rewarding.
“We’re powered by the community and we want to be the heart of our community,” she adds. “Hence, our name: Two Small Men with Big Hearts.”
Balkwill encourages organizations to submit their moving requests at twosmallmen.com/giving-back.
Additionally, Two Small Men donates 10 per cent of its profits each year to charity. The company projects in 2024, that will translate into $200,000.
“Our entire team’s fuelled by that passion for community giving,” Balkwill says. “We started this because we believe as an organization it is the right thing to do, (and) it’s just become instrumental in our company culture.”
