Jets lose 6-3 to Flames

CALGARY – A three-game winning streak came to a screeching halt for the Winnipeg Jets on Monday as they fell 6-3 to the Calgary Flames.

Sean Monahan’s natural hat trick for the visitors, which built a 3-1 lead in the first period, was the only highlight of the day.

The Jets fall to 33-15-5, while the Flames improve to 26-25-5.

Winnipeg returns to action on Tuesday night as they host the Minnesota Wild at Canada Life Centre.

Husband/wife team wins third provincial mixed doubles curling championship

Colton and Kadriana Lott have won their third Manitoba mixed doubles curling championship.

The couple from Gimli defeated siblings James Kirkness and Darcy Robertson 7-0 in the provincial final Monday in Beausejour.

The Lotts prevailed a year ago and won their first title in 2018.

They will wear the buffalo jackets at the Canadian championship next month in Fredericton.

Winnipeg police respond to suspicious item, no threat detected

12:29 PM

A suspicious item in the area of Assiniboine Avenue and Rouge Road was reported to  Winnipeg Police Service on Sunday night.

The item was treated as a possible improvised explosive device (IED) and multiple units assisted in safely containing the area and securing a safe perimeter before the arrival of the Bomb Unit.

The item was found not to contain any explosive materials, and there was no further risk to public safety.

Winnipeg Police advise the public to call 911 for suspicious items, avoiding approach.

Woman arrested for aggravated assault after stabbing incident in Winnipeg

11:29 AM

Winnipeg Police Service responded to a fight on Sunday evening in the 600 block of College Avenue. A 30-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds. Officers provided emergency care, and she was hospitalized in unstable condition but later stabilized.

Elaine Lundberg, 40, of Winnipeg, faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon. She remains in custody pending further investigation.
