Jets blow out Avalanche 7-0

5:42 PM

The Winnipeg Jets blew out the Colorado Avalanche 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in Denver.

It was Winnipeg’s sixth straight victory, including all four on this final road trip of the regular-season.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped all 31 shots he faced for his fifth shutout of the season.

Sean Monahan and Adam Lowry scored twice, while Josh Morrissey, Tyler Toffoli and Gabe Vilardi had the other goals for the visitors.

The Jets went a perfect 3-0-0 against the Avalanche this season, outscoring them 17-4. They’ll face each other in the first round of the playoffs starting next weekend, with home-ice advantage still to be decided.

Winnipeg is now 50-24-6 on the year, two points ahead of Colorado (49-25-6). Both teams have two games left, and the Jets own the tiebreaker. Colorado plays in Vegas and at home to Edmonton, while Winnipeg finishes off the Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks at Canada Life Centre.

Police investigating serious assault at Main Street hotel

Const. Jason Michalyshen said police were called to the Manwin Hotel in the 600 block of Main Street just after 6 a.m. Saturday. A woman at the scene was taken to hospital in unstable condition but she has since stabilized.

Michalyshen said the woman was potentially assaulted with a weapon. Police were on scene for several hours, leaving at around 10 a.m. The investigation continues.
