Hey there, time traveller!

A member of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly received a rare standing ovation from her colleagues Wednesday after making a major announcement.
“I am four months pregnant,” Liberal Cindy Lamoureux told the house in her final member’s statement before the spring sitting ends on Monday. The 32-year-old, soon-to-be first-time mom wished her colleagues a wonderful and safe summer.
Premier Wab Kinew took a moment at the start of a feisty question period to congratulate the Liberal leader, who was first elected in 2016.
“You are about to go through a journey that I’m sure will be very meaningful as you welcome your first child into this world and potentially — judging from recent history — maybe a future MLA, too.”
Her father, Kevin Lamoureux, was an MLA before he was elected as federal Liberal MP for Winnipeg North.

The member for Tyndall Park said she has the same office her dad once occupied and that some of her earliest memories are of being in a playpen at the legislature.
“All my life I’ve been coming here,” she said in an interview. “This is one of the offices I grew up in — and I hope to do the same.”
The baby is expected Nov. 5 and the house sits until Dec. 5.
Lamoureux said her husband plans to take parental leave and she doesn’t plan to take off much time. She said she will participate remotely, but not for long.
“It’s nice that we have the virtual option but my hope is to be able to return relatively quickly.”
