Regulator suspends Winnipeg doctor six months for professional misconduct

Manitoba’s physician watchdog has suspended a doctor for six months after finding him guilty of professional misconduct.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba found Dr. Daljit Singh Gill guilty of multiple counts of professional misconduct at a Tuesday-morning inquiry committee hearing, according to a note posted on the college’s website.

The inquiry panel also found him guilty of breaching college bylaws and standards, demonstrating a “lack of skill, knowledge, and judgment in the practice of medicine” and demonstrating an unfitness to practise medicine.

The panel ordered a six-month suspension of his licence to start at a later date, a fine, practice restrictions, requirements for remediation and costs.

Further details were not made available online, with the college saying the written reasons for the decision would be posted at a later date.

According to Gill’s profile on the college’s website, his medical licence in Manitoba dates back to 2012. He is a specialist in internal medicine and his primary practice address is listed as Medigroup Health Centre on Kenaston Boulevard.

A lengthy list of terms and conditions is attached to his licence. They include: that he work only at Medigroup Health Centre and Maples Personal Care Home; that he not supervise or teach students; that he see a maximum of 25 patients a day when working a full day in office and 15 per day at Maples; that he keep medical records up to date; that he promptly contact patients when he receives abnormal results; and that he send a copy of his daily diary promptly when requested by the college.
