RCMP are searching for a 33-year-old male suspect with extreme frostbite, who had help leaving a hospital Friday morning, one day after he was apprehended in the bush near Ebb and Flow First Nation.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver in a pickup truck in Ebb and Flow Thursday morning. Officers located the truck by the reserve’s arena. RCMP tried to stop the driver, who left the truck and fled on foot into the bush.

As he ran away, he removed some of his clothing and left it behind, RCMP said.

Blake Beaulieu, 33, of Sandy Bay First Nation.

The pickup had been reported stolen from Austin, 50 kilometres west of Portage on the Trans-Canada Highway. A sawed-off shotgun was found in the truck, Mounties said.

An RCMP dog unit, Manitoba First Nation safety officers from Ebb and Flow and the local fire department helped Mounties search for the suspect in the bush by snowmobile, with the help of a drone.

The man was found in deep snow by officers on a snowmobile. The man managed to escape and take off on the snowmobile, RCMP said.

The suspect was taken into custody when he got stuck in the snow. At the time, he wasn’t wearing shoes.

He was taken to hospital in serious condition. Around 8 a.m. Friday, RCMP were advised he had left the hospital with an unknown person.

Blake Beaulieu, 33, of Sandy Bay First Nation has been charged with theft, flight from peace officer, and possession of a firearm.

RCMP say his medical condition is possibly life-threatening.

Anyone who knows his whereabouts is asked to call the Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP at 204-447-3082, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
