BRANDON — Wally Daudrich says he plans to appeal the Progressive Conservative party’s decision to disqualify him as a candidate for the party in Turtle Mountain.

“I’m going to be appealing to the PC Party of Manitoba to get me back in,” Daudrich said in a short video he sent to the Brandon Sun Thursday evening.

Daudrich was blocked from pursuing the PC nomination in the constituency because he broke the party’s constitution, the Tories have said.

The party clarified the reasoning in a post on its website Wednesday.

It included “repeated disparaging comments regarding current and former Progressive Conservative MLAs,” along with Daudrich allegedly using third-party contact lists.

The party also said the former candidate refused to “provide written assurance that any threatened litigation involving the leader (Obby Khan), MLAs, and other party officials has been withdrawn and will not proceed.”

Daudrich had been publicly seeking the PC nomination in Turtle Mountain since December. He was disqualified by the party on June 3.

The party confirmed that the nomination meetings set for Friday in Boissevain and Somerset have been cancelled.

Municipality of Two Borders Coun. Mark Custance also seeks the party’s nomination in the constituency.

Daudrich and Khan ran against each other to become party leader in April 2025. Daudrich received more votes than Khan, but lost because the ballots were weighted by constituency.

In the video, Daudrich thanked his supporters after the party announced he wouldn’t be able to run.

He previously posted a long message on social media saying he has remained loyal to the party and reiterating he has sold plenty of party memberships.

The disqualification, he said in the post, “reflects a growing disconnect between the party leadership and grassroots conservatives across Manitoba.”

Last week, Daudrich told the Sun he wasn’t surprised that the party disqualified him, but that it did come as a shock.

Daudrich said there is no lawsuit between him and the party leader.

The next provincial election is set for no later than October 2027.
