Have you ever thought about training for a role in leadership?
Have you ever wondered about practical ways to transform your community?
Are you interested exploring the not-for-profit sector?
Did you know that there is a school in the heart of downtown Winnipeg that offers these very opportunities?
The School for Continuing Studies (SCS) at Booth University College provides flexible professional training in leadership, not-for-profit management, chaplaincy, and community capacity building. The School for Continuing Studies’ certificate and degree programs combine theory and practical experience to create a dynamic learning environment and to prepare every student to be a transforming influence in the world.
Originally, the SCS was created for Salvation Army Officers. Recently, however, it has opened up many programs to the general public with the goal of offering skills training in areas that the Salvation Army is known for: leadership, service, organizational cohesion and conflict transformation.
“Training through the Not-for-Profit Management program at the SCS at Booth UC has empowered me to feel confident in many diverse leadership settings. The program design is ideal for the busy leader; allowing for real-time training using real-world scenarios.” – Cameron Eggie (Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management/19)
The SCS at Booth UC offers the following online certificate programs:
- Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management: This program covers a wide variety of essentials for not-for-profit business management and administration, including: human resources, program design and management, financial management, strategic planning and leadership, approaches to not-for-profit management in the Canadian context, and monitoring and evaluation.
- Certificate in Community Capacity Building: This program is designed for community leaders who have the motivation and commitment to make change, and who are open to learning new methods to make that change a reality. Students engage through sharing lived experiences, hearing from guest speakers and professionals in the field, and adopting new tools for the building of new projects and movements.
- Certificate in Leadership Essentials: This program takes a holistic view of leadership, one that is about learning, listening, and connecting to the collective intelligence of groups and organizations. The program promotes leadership that is emergent, collaborative, and acutely responsive in an era of unprecedented change and uncertainty.
- Certificate in Advanced Leadership: This program offers a wide variety of hands-on experience and applied learning activities. Participants cultivate new ways of thinking, acting, and being, and develop and apply whole-systems and collaborative leadership approaches.
- Certificate in Chaplaincy & Spiritual Care: This program equips students with the concepts and skills required for effective leadership in chaplaincy and spiritual care in a variety of settings. Students develop an awareness of the various contexts in which chaplains and spiritual caregivers minister, as well as the pastoral skills essential for these roles.
“The program is very refreshing, very wonderful. The teachers are knowledgeable and thorough, and you do well if you put your heart into it. I like to study, and I said to myself: Go for it and finish it!” – Archbishop Deloris Seiveright (Certificate of Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care/22)
