RCMP are scouring the grounds of a popular Dauphin-area country music festival after a Winnipeg man was reported missing Saturday.
Danny Berhie Kidane, 24, was last seen by his friends around 6 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of Dauphin's Countryfest, RCMP said.
"He’s there with his friends having a good time and then suddenly they haven’t seen him since Saturday night — they’re concerned," said RCMP spokesman Sgt. Paul Manaigre.
The Dauphin RCMP detachment, along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner and Countryfest security are searching the grounds and the nearby forest.
RCMP sealed off parts of the creek on the grounds. The festival officially ended Sunday night and most people who camped at the event were leaving Monday.
A Brandon RCMP officer with a trained search-and-rescue dog is headed to the area to assist in the search, Manaigre said.
Also on-site is the RCMP search-and-rescue unit, a 20-person team trained in tracking missing people using all-terrain vehicles, GPS units and grid-searching techniques.
There’s no indication of what happened to Kidane at this point, Manaigre said.
Kidane is described as being of African descent, 5-foot-6, 140 pounds with brown eyes and short black hair. He was last seen wearing black shorts and flip flops.
