A new web portal which provides a wide-range of information about Winnipeg and its 236 neighbourhoods — everything census and demographic data to current real estate listings and where to find the nearest library — was officially launched today.

The Neighbourhoods of Winnipeg (NOW) portal is result of a more than three-year collaborative effort by the City of Winnipeg, Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW) and the Winnipeg Realtors Association (WRA).

“We want to attract new investment to the city and, at the same time, ensure that Winnipeg remains healthy and viable for existing businesses to grow and thrive,” Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz told a late-morning news conference held to officially launch the new portal.

“The new web portal… is one way that we are making it easier to do business within the City of Winnipeg,” he added.

The portal is intended to be a resource for existing citizens and businesses, anyone thinking of moving here, as well as tourists, students, researchers and community groups preparing funding proposals.

Examples of some of the other information available on the site include mapping information, the locations of things like schools and swimming pools, and historical and cultural information about each of the city’s neighbourhoods.

“It becomes a one-stop shop to find out about your city or the city you might be moving to,” said WRA president Richard Dettman.

“Attracting and retaining people in Winnipeg is a critical part of a healthy city and contributes greatly to our quality of life,” added said EDW president and CEO Marina James. “NOW is another tool that people can use to stay informed about our city.”

The NOW portal can be accessed by visiting: Winnipeg.ca/now.
