Manitoba's justice department no longer plans to build a new jail in Dauphin. A promised replacement for the aging provincial correctional centre was announced under the previous government in 2013, but the province now says the declining number of inmates in custody in Manitoba can be housed in existing jails.
Justice Minister Cliff Cullen told CBC News there are no current plans to replace the Dauphin Correctional Centre.
