A local architecture firm has been chosen winner of a design competition to commemorate the 1919 General Strike.
City officials announced late Monday that the design from Monteyne Architecture Works beat out two other local entries.
"The calibre of submissions in the design competition was inspiring," John Kiernan, Director of Planning, Property and Development said in a prepared statement released by city hall. "We extend heartfelt congratulations to Monteyne Architecture on their winning design, and are pleased to acknowledge finalists H5 Architecture and Unit 7 Architecture for their innovative proposals."
The monument will be erected at the corner of Lily Street and Market Avenue beginning this summer.
