The search for Winnipeg’s next chief administrative officer appears to be over, as long-time civil servant Michael Jack has been tapped to take on the role.

“Michael Jack has over 20 years of experience volunteering, serving on boards and working at a senior level in the City of Winnipeg’s public service. If approved by EPC (executive policy committee) and council, he would be well-positioned to draw upon his experience to lead our public service today and into the future,” Mayor Brian Bowman said in a statement Thursday.

The recommendation comes from a recruitment committee formed in March 2019.

A motion to recommend Jack for the position will be part of next week’s EPC meeting. If the committee approves the recommendation, it will move forward to city council July 22. If council approves the decision, Jack will officially start July 23.

Jack currently serves as the deputy chief administrative officer, and would be replace interim CAO Mike Ruta.
