A Winnipeg criminal defence lawyer is facing criminal charges.

Steven Keesic was charged with possession of cocaine and impaired driving after an incident June 22 in Winnipeg, according to court documents.

The charges haven’t been proven and Keesic is presumed innocent. He was called to the bar in 2013. His criminal cases have been taken over by other lawyers since the charges were laid.

The Law Society of Manitoba is aware of the charges against him, a spokeswoman said, adding any professional discipline depends on the outcome of the criminal charges and the nature of them (whether they compromise someone’s ability to practise law).

The professional regulatory body must be kept apprised of the charges and their eventual outcome.
