Two men were badly injured in separate acts of violence on a North End street in less than six hours.

A 29-year-old man was found with a severe injury to his upper body on Selkirk Avenue Thursday evening after he was attacked with a blade one street south, on the 500 block of Flora Avenue.

The Winnipeg Police Service said officers were called to the scene around 8:30 p.m. They applied a tourniquet to the victim to stop the bleeding.

Members of the Bear Clan Patrol, which is located in building on Selkirk Avenue, jumped in to help.

“We were able to get the man off the street into the safety of the building, sit him down and by the time we got back with some first aid equipment, WPS was already handling the situation,” said executive director Kevin Walker.

The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition, and later upgraded to stable.

Early Friday, a 26-year-old man was shot on the 400 block of Flora Avenue, police said.

Officers were called for a stabbing near the intersection of Flora Avenue and Salter Street at around 3 a.m.

When they found the victim, they determined he had been shot. They applied a tourniquet to the victim, who was taken to hospital in unstable condition, and later upgraded to stable.

No arrests have been made in either incident.
