The Winnipeg Free Press has claimed three honours at the 2018 Editor & Publisher Awards.
The EPPY Awards are an international contest in their 23rd year, honouring the best in digital media across 30 diverse categories.
The Free Press won in the categories of best daily newspaper website with under one million unique monthly visitors (winnipegfreepress.com), best digital magazine with under one million unique monthly visitors (Above the Fold), and best sports video with under one million unique monthly visitors (Party on Winnipeg: Jets fans revel in Game 7 playoff victory).
“To be on the virtual red carpet with the likes of the Boston Globe and CNN is one thing, but to then also win three times is really remarkable,’’ Free Press editor Paul Samyn said. “I am so proud that the digital focus and innovation that is front and centre in our newsroom has earned this recognition.”
The Free Press had also been nominated in the categories of best innovation project with under one million unique monthly visitors (Food for Thought), and best news or event feature with under one million unique monthly visitors (I Thought it was a Nightmare).
The Free Press was the only Canadian media outlet nominated for the 2018 awards.
The EPPY winners receive an engraved award recognizing their achievement and will be included in news releases, along with being acknowledged in Editor & Publisher magazine.
