Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba leadership runner-up Shelly Glover raised one-third of the money donated to Heather Stefanson, who beat her by a narrow margin.

In financial disclosures filed Tuesday with Elections Manitoba, Glover raised $188,483, compared to $576,625 donated to the campaign of Stefanson, who won by 363 votes (or 51 per cent of ballots cast).

The Oct. 30 leadership race was called after PC leader and premier Brian Pallister resigned in August. Stefanson was sworn in as Manitoba’s first female premier Nov. 2.

Glover went to court to challenge the result of the party leadership vote. The court ruled against her, saying there may have been some irregularities but none that would have changed the outcome of the election.

In her Elections Manitoba financial disclosure, donations less than $250 to Glover amounted to $14,983, while those of $250 or more totalled $173,500.

The donors who gave the most — $3,000 — include some prominent Winnipeggers and business owners, such as Peter Ginakes, Andrew Marquess, Ian Rabb, John Prystanski and Thomas De Nardi.

PC party members and operatives such as former Conservative MP Lawrence Toet gave $500, while Marni Larkin donated $1,500 and Taras Sokolyk gave $500.

The candidate donated $2,000 to her own campaign. Her husband, Bruce Glover, gave $1,000.
