MANITOBA RCMP have started a homicide investigation in connection with the discovery of human remains near Warren last week.
Mounties announced the remains had been found in the Rural Municipality of Woodlands last Thursday. Police had been called to the scene west of Highway 6, 25 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, Wednesday evening.
A dog had taken bones to its owner on a nearby farm after the snow had melted.
Last Friday, forensics and major crimes units worked with a civilian anthropology team to comb through the farm fields, patches of trees and ditches.
Sgt. Paul Manaigre said the first bone the farm dog took home didn’t raise suspicion.
“(However,) within a couple of days, some more items came back that alerted the owner there was a concern and they called the police,” Manaigre told the Free Press Friday.
RCMP have not said whether they have identified the victim or determined the cause of death.
