Hey there, time traveller!

Any assumptions made about Agape Table receiving all its supplies to combat the COVID-19 pandemic for free would be incorrect.
The charitable organization paid more than $40,000 this year for items such as personal protective equipment, paper bags, plastic baggies, plastic utensils and disposable cups.
That’s why a recent donation of face masks from the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg was so deeply appreciated by Agape Table executive director Jim Steep and his crew, who provide meals to between 500 to 600 Winnipeggers each weekday.
“It’s fantastic,” said Steep. “It’s a big expense we weren’t counting on. We really are indebted to them for this help.”
Anyone who visits Agape Table for a meal is required to mask up, as are the hard-working volunteers who also wear face shields and gloves.
Elaine Goldstine, executive director of the Jewish Federation, said the group was glad to help protect some of the city’s vulnerable citizens and volunteers making a difference every day at the not-for-profit organization on Furby Street.
“It’s a really good thing to be able to do, especially during Hanukkah, a time of giving,” she said.
The local federation was gifted 40,000 masks from the Jewish Federations of Canada, which had received a large-scale donation from a Canadian company.
“We got a pallet of masks on Monday; even the shipping was paid for,” said Goldstine.
The local federation is donating masks to various city Jewish organizations, as well as daycares, schools, Main Street Project and others. Federation staff are dropping off masks around the city.
“It makes us feel good to help others,” she said, noting the drop-off duties are a welcomed break from non-stop Zoom meetings.
“We are all one community, and we want to help everyone,” Goldstine said. “We want to help as many organizations as we can.”
