Winnipeg police say a booze-fuelled fight sparked the fatal stabbing on Pembina Highway Wednesday.
Officers were called to a sidewalk in front of a condo building at 2300 Pembina Hwy. at about 4:30 a.m. Wilbert Junior Harper, 33, was bleeding after being stabbed. He was taken to hospital and died.
Police arrested a suspect later in the day at a residence near the crime scene,.
“The two involved parties were known to each other and (investigators) believe that intoxication was a part of that. They believe alcohol may have been a factor in this one,” Const. Claude Chancy said Thursday.
Floyd Alex Chartrand, 43, of Winnipeg, has been charged with manslaughter, failing to comply with a probation order, and with an active warrant for theft under $5,000.
He was detained in custody.
