A months-long search for a suspect in multiple gun-related incidents, including two counts of attempted murder, concluded Saturday with the arrest of a 29-year-old Winnipeg man.
Officers attended a residence on the 700 block of Sargent Avenue Saturday following a report of a man armed with a gun, according to the Winnipeg Police Service. Police called the lone occupant out of the residence and placed him under arrest.
A search of the home resulted in the seizure of a loaded .22 calibre revolver, police said.
Samuel Tache McKay, 29, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with the Oct. 31 shooting of a 24-year-old man and 28-year-old woman at a Winnipeg home.
During the incident, the man was shot in the “rear upper body” while the woman was shot in the “rear lower body,” police said. Both were treated in hospital and later released.
The gunman later confronted four adults at a nearby residence and threatened to shoot them, police said.
The suspect in the Halloween shootings was also being sought in connection to a July 8 report of a woman assaulted by a male armed with a firearm, an October report of a man in possession of a loaded revolver at a residence, and an Oct. 28 incident during which a man was threatened and assaulted by a suspect armed with a sawed off shotgun.
On Nov. 4, the WPS made a public appeal, asking for assistance in the locating the suspect.
In addition to the attempted murder offences, McKay faces more than two dozen other charges, including multiple counts of assault, and discharging a firearm with intent.
